And I am not the only one who goes this phase. All bloggers, Internet marketers, authors do too. I have heard this question time and again on how to find topics to write about, whether it is a blog or article or press release or a video. You will find the answer here. Before I go and tell you my 3 techniques for beating writer’s block, let me explain a bit on how your brain works. Unlike a grocery store which manages stock on FIFO (First In First Out) basis, your brain manages it’s stock (information) on LIFO (Last In First Out) basis. The information that comes out of your brain is greatly influenced by the last thing that went into it. For e.g. If you are mad over something, you take that anger out on an innocent victim. You certainly did not mean to, but your brain didn’t let you either. Imagine this: You come out of sleep and sit in front of your computer to write an article. What do you think will happen? Of course, you wouldn’t know what to write about because the last thing that went in was sleep, so all you will get out is sleep. So in order to get valuable information out of your brain, you have to feed it with valuable information first. The 3 techniques that I use is based on changing this ‘last in’ part of the equation.

Technique #1: Draw from your day’s experience. Every day teaches you a valuable lesson. All you have to do is reminisce how you day passed and what lessons you have learnt today. Search for the one that inspired you the most, or touched you the most. Once you find that piece of experience, just expand on it in your own word. Valerie Sherwood said it brilliantly, “Don’t write what you know—what you know may bore you, and thus bore your readers. Write about what interests you—and interests you deeply—and your readers will catch fire at your words.”

Technique #2: Read a book. If I don’t have any valuable lesson in my day’s experience, then I pick up a book and start reading. Once I have read for 10 to 15 minutes, I get enough information that I feel is valuable to share with the world. Read something that interests you deeply, and not just for the sake of reading something. Barbara Kingsolver said, “Don’t try to figure out what other people want to hear from you; figure out what you have to say.” Remember, people are not interested in ‘what’ you say; they are interested in ‘why’ you say ‘what’ you say.

Technique #3: Draw from the Bible. Or any religious book for that matter. I use the bible, as it is a storehouse of life lessons. Whenever I don’t find something inspiring to write about, I pick the bible and select a section at random. I read a verse or two, understand it, feel the profound meaning inside of it, and then expand in my own words with some real life examples. You can choose a book that represents your religion and share the life lessons from it.

Again, it’s your thoughts, it’s your feelings, it’s your ideas, and it’s your experience. It’s unique in it’s own way. Ruth Ross once said, “There are only three colors, ten digits, and seven notes; it’s what we do with them that’s important.” Keeping with that thought, express your heart out – the aim however is to express, not impress.

As I said in the previous paragraph, while you get a backlink from the article, it is improbable that readers of your original article will bother to read the second so you don’t get double the traffic by creating two very similar articles.

3.    They help to ruin the quality of information on the web

The web is not just a place for promoting companies. In fact, most people do not want to be sold to in this day and age because we can search for any product or service we are after. By posting near duplicated content on the web, you are damaging the experience for the people who are searching for information on the web. You are far more likely to make a sale from one of these users by providing a useful article than many ineffective copies that exists only to link to your website.

4.    Spun articles are a poor reflection of you or your company

If you do submit spun articles to the web which are badly written, found elsewhere and just not as outstanding as they could be, it is a bad reflection on you or your company. For example, if a user comes across your article on ‘dog training’ which leads to your dog training website, you are likely to lose their business and their respect if your copy is poor. The user is the person who keeps your cash flow healthy, not the amount of backlinks you have.

5.    Google will catch up
